Blog Swap with Brilliant Like Fireflies

Today, I'm participating in the Grow.Swap.Share blog swap!  I'd like to welcome the sister duo, Courtney and Kristin from Brilliant Like Fireflies to the T&B family!  I've hijacked their blog today where I'm posting about painting a Sports Logo Canvas for Father's Day.

Tip Toe Thru Tuesday {t4} linky is up and running, don't forget to pop back and add what you've been up to this week.

Hi My name is Courtney and I, along with my sister Kristin, blog over at Brilliant Like Fireflies about crafts, recipes and home decorating projects. I'm so excited to be here at Tiaras and Bowties as part of the Blog Swap.

Today I decided to share a little wreath update project I worked on. I had made this pretty simple wreath a while ago (check out that post on my old blog here) and decided it was time to update it, while at the same time trying out a technique I've been seeing everywhere lately, fabric flowers.

I started this update by carefully removing the numbers and flowers off the wreath which, even though they were stuck on with hot glue, was pretty easy.

Next I laid out some newspaper and re-painted the numbers in a soft yellow for a bit of cheerful colour.

For the fabric flowers I looked through a couple of tutorials and it all seemed pretty straight forward. I found some simple white cotton fabric at Wal-Mart and cut it into strips. To make one flower I took two strips and tied them together at one end, and twisted them up. Using fabric glue (do NOT use a hot glue gun, please learn from my mistakes) I wound the fabric in on itself in a flat spiral, using the glue every so often to keep it together. Then when I got to the end I neatly glued the fabric on the back of the flower to neatly finish it off.

It took a little bit but I finally got a hang of it and when I had finished making them I glued my collection of flowers on the wreath a little grouping. Once the paint was dry on thenumbers I glued them back onto the wreath too.

Overall it is just a simple update, but puts a smile on my face every time I come home and see it.

Thanks Kimberly for having me here! I really hope you all head over to Brilliant like Fireflies to her post!

Big thanks to Courtney and Kristin for swapping with me today, as well as our Blog Swap host... My Favorite Finds and White Lights on Wednesday!  Follow the linky below to see and show some comment love to the other great blogs participating!

Those are impressive. The best ones are the ones where the shape of the hand or the skin texture works for the animal (like the elephant and giraffe). The painting of a cat on the hand seems a bit pointless.

What a cute idea! Our house number is hard to see so this is a great solution
