Easy Cupcake Roses for My Valentine!

I have some easy peasy Valentine Cupcakes to share with you today!  Yes, EEE ZZZZ.

Chances are you may already have all of the ingredients in your cupboard, if not a quick run to your closest supermarket is all you need to do get them!  No hoop jumping with this one!  I even used boxed cake mix and prepared frosting.  The secret to these pretties is Fruit by the Foot or some other type of fruit roll up (any brand, color, or flavor will work).

So prepare your cupcakes any way you want.  We used a box of devil's food and made 2 dozen,
 letting them cool.
Tip: when making chocolate cake or cupcakes, substitute 1/4 cup of coffee for some of the water... to die for moist and yummy.  You don't taste the coffee it just enhances the chocolate flavor!

Since my Boom is home with an ear infection today, she helped frost them with Mommy.
Nothing fancy schmancy needed... just cover the tops with your favorite icing.

Next we unrolled our fruit strip which will become our pretty flower cupcake topper.
I like the fruit by the foot because they separate down the middle with a squiggly line allowing me to make 2 flowers with each strip.

Fold over and pinch one end of the fruit strip.
Using the squiggly side up, begin rolling and pinching the candy at the bottom.

Kinda like making a rolled flower out of some fabric strips.

roll... pinch... fold... roll

Whatever method you feel will give you a pretty flower, then place them on top of the cupcakes.

Boom and I set up a pretty little vignette to snap some quick photos of our cakes for you!

Give it a try...

Go ahead and involve the kids in the decorating process!
Flowers are like children, the are all different but they are all oh so special!

After all, the only thing better than giving your family a sweet treat to tell them you love them is to share your time and attention with them!

I'll be back a bit later in the week with another rose cupcake to share for LOVE Day!

Happy Thanksgiving Turkey!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Had a wonderful evening with my son last night baking cupcakes!  It was so great to just de-stress with him and have fun....after making a few cakes for others recently and the stress that goes along with that.  We made a few turkeys as well.  Not the typical turkey, but sugar dough turkeys!

Don't stress... ANYONE can do these easy little turkeys.

Roll out three balls of brown fondant. One big and 2 smaller.
Roll the 2 smaller balls into cone shapes and pinch one end to make the turkey legs.  Add a tiny ball of white to those ends for the bones.
Simply use some water and carefull pinch them to the larger ball (the turkey).

Voila!

These turkeys were done in under 5 minutes!

My turkeys turned out pretty well, I was happy with them.

But oh, I learned a very valuable Thanksgiving lesson last night.
Spending time with your kids is WAY important.
I spend valuable time - many many hours stressing over the cakes I do for others...the scrutiny I put myself under for the perfect cake decor.

That's all well and good.  I do luv what I do.
But my favorite turkey cupcakes were not my own.

Austin's cupcakes were my absolute FAV!
My  year old's turkey cupcakes are my favorite EVER!

His happiness and creativity are of the utmost importance.
The works of edible art we made last night are WAY better than any other cake I've done recently!
The imperfectness of them makes them SO perfect to me.

Anyway...please give thanks for your blessings today and everyday!
